Susie Wiles Spills

Post by saxitoxin »

President Trump's hand-picked Chief of Staff has given her weirdly frank assessment of the Administration to Vanity Fair.

Trump has an "alcoholic's personality"
Ms. Wiles compared Mr. Trump to her father, Pat Summerall, the legendary sportscaster who was an absentee parent and alcoholic. While Mr. Trump does not drink, she suggested he had “an alcoholic’s personality” because he operates with “a view that there’s nothing he can’t do. Nothing, zero, nothing.” Her experience with her father, she said, made her “a little bit of an expert in big personalities.”
Elon Musk is a drug addict
She was scathing about Elon Musk, the billionaire Trump ally who was given free rein early in the administration to take a wrecking ball to federal agencies and departments. “He’s an odd, odd duck, as I think geniuses are,” she said. “You know, it’s not helpful, but he is his own person.” She called him “an avowed ketamine” user, though she later told The New York Times that she did not have any actual knowledge of that beyond his own statements.
Internal disagreement over tariffs
She acknowledged sharp internal divisions over Mr. Trump’s announcement of major tariffs last spring. “There was a huge disagreement over whether” tariffs were “a good idea,” she said. “We told Donald Trump, ‘Hey, let’s not talk about tariffs today. Let’s wait until we have the team in complete unity and then we’ll do it.’” But he announced them anyway and “it’s been more painful than I expected.”

It's funny... I never even heard of her until now.

Trump 1.0, the Chiefs of Staff were constantly in the news. Trump 2.0, she's been almost invisible.

I think Trump 2.0 is more disciplined, partly due to Wiles and partly because Trump realized he made MANY mistakes during his first term. Trump was a neophyte in national politics and there was much uproar and things were a MESS in the White House during his first term. Trump appointed too many people not suitable for their roles during his first term; anyone remember Sean Spicer?

Trump fixed many of his mistakes from his first term, and one is to appoint better people in many key roles. (I am not sure Pete Hegseth is the right person in his role. Trump wanted someone to project a warrior image and one who can fight with sound bites. Hegseth seems to be unqualified otherwise.)

Trump seems to me more disciplined in his second term. He still talks impromtu (some times to his detriment) and for the most part is more empathetic and shows that he cares about others, even about some who disagree with him.

Another factor is the Trump realizes that he himself cannot run for President again and he was WON his last political race. The assassination attempt has given him a perspective that makes him see the bigger picture and lets him clearly see his mortality (similar to Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II after they both survive an assassination attempt). Trump is less inclined to LASH out in anger at those who do not like him or that he does not like. From what I know, what Trump said about Rob Reiner was in bad taste.

More disciplined? "Quiet, Piggy"? Is that statesmanlike and not lashing out? Jumping to the conclusion that the Reiner killing was about him is entirely narcissistic. "More empathetic"? As the leader of the nation, he should have been mourning the loss of one of its citizens, regardless of any political preferences. He's an unhinged, deranged buffoon, and his appeasement of Putin is disgusting.

HOLLY MOLY! Have you guys seen the trailer for the upcoming Melania Trump film? It's amazing! (And I say this as a Trump-supporter-turned-mild-Trump-critic.)
