Tournament Player's Association - Year 2 (TPA2)
The second year of the Tournament Player's Association (TPA) has reached the following status. 45 tournaments have been created, of which four are Majors; thirteen are premier and the remainder are standard. Currently thirteen have been completed and the new scoreboard is now up to date with these scores.
The new scoreboard is at :
Note that tabs will be added for completed tournaments as they are completed.
Tournament Schedule
There are 4 major events. These are the Grand Slam events of the TPA and as such, any serious contender should join them. Each of these will count for your scores.
Of the Premier events, your best 8 scores in the Premier events will count on the TPA scoreboard. You may enter more or less but only the top 8 scores will count.
Finally, your best 16 Regular tournament scores will count on the TPA scoreboard.
Thus, there are a maximum of 28 tournaments counting on your TPA scoreboard.
Scoring
The points will be applied to the order as submitted by the individual TO's unless the TO also applies the appropriate points. If no points have been specified then the points will be assigned according to the average of the number of players in a given position. i.e. If two persons are knocked out in the semi-finals they will each have the points associated with one half of the sum of the points for third and fourth places. Similarly those knocked out in quarter finals will each have the average points for fifth to eighth places, etc. This will be irrespective of separating the players by number of games won in total; in final round or any other factor unless specified by the TO. In team games, each player in the team will receive the same points as though they were in an individual tournament. Fractional points will be rounded up to the nearest integer.
The format and rules remain the same.
Sanctioning
To be sanctioned as a TPA event, tournaments must
1). Follow all CC tournament requirements
2). Have no point restrictions (although it may require a premium membership)
3). Have an organizer who has successfully run previous CC tournaments, is committed to running this one through and has not been replaced as a TO for any tournament during the preceding 12 months.
4). Allow for at least 30 players (singles/doubles) or 8 teams (triples/quad)
5). TO agrees not to send to any sort of "list" for the first 48 hours of sign ups to allow all players fair entry
6). TOs agree that for all sanctioned events that players will be accepted in the order in which they sign up regardless of all banned lists that a particular TO may have.
Joining the Tournaments
Players do not have to join all tournaments, and indeed may not be able to. It is expected that some of them will contain fewer players than everyone who is participating in the TPA. Not all TPA players will be guaranteed a slot in any tournament but must sign up in the usual manner. There will be an effort made, however, to ensure that ensure that there are enough of the larger tournaments also involved and many TOs are expanding upon some of their existing franchises to allow more players to participate.
Exemptions and Reserves
TOs are allowed to offer exemptions (reserve a slot)for up to 5% of the slots, so a 30 player tournament could offer 2 exemptions, a 50 player would be 3, a 70 player tournament would be 4 etc. Team tournaments have one exemption per 16 teams (so with 8-16 teams there is 1 exemption, 17-31 would be 2 etc). If the organizer joins their own tournament, it is counted as one of the exemptions.
Exemptions may be used only for players who have won a previous TPA event or another tournament of the same type by the same organizer that was not a TPA event. All spots not reserved for an exemption must be open for sign ups.
Winners of Year 1 majors will automatically receive an invite into the year two event of the same style provided the Year 1 event is completed in time.
