Casino Teachings

Post by wiggybowler »

Hey I work at a casino as a dealer and thought that some people might want to know more about playing some of the games, so I figured I would start this. If you have any questions about a game post it. I will answer any I know, if I don't know the answer I will find out for you.

Texas Hold'em is mainly outsmarting your opponents, its making them think you have a hand you don't have.

Oh i know that, poker face and all, its just the way they play on TV is what irritates me

5 cards downm 1 face up, bet some money, people either fold or stay in and bet that same amount or raise
but they just do it differently

Ever read the 70's book "beat the dealer" about counting cards in black jack. Is it still relevant to todays game?

I'm not completely sure if this is the right game, but it's the same as Texas Hold 'em, except you get 4 hand cards, but use two.

Baccarat and Mini Baccarat are basically the same game, the only differences are the limits of the game and there are usually 3 dealers in Baccarat. Mini Baccarat is done by 1 dealer and the players never touch the cards.

Omaha has between 2-10 players while Texas hold'em has 2-12. In Omaha you get 4 hole cards unlike texas hold'em where you get 2. Of the 4 hole cards you may only use 2 of them along with the community cards. Other than that it plays exactly like Texas hold'em.

Actually Roulette is my main game, but it is usually only a favorite game of occasional players because of the odds you get paid when you do win.

Yes I have read this book and yes it is still relevent to the game of blackjack. There are many different ways to count cards. Using basic strategy you can lower the house advantage to about 1%, but when you can skillfully count the cards you can actually take the houses edge and put it in your favor. I could post a common way if some of you would like.

Yes, the main group that made them famous could not get along and split up now there are a bunch of less talented groups like them.

Card Counting

10,Jack,Queen,King = -1

3,4,5,6 = +1

everything else= 0

1st off to do this it take alot of practice, you need to get to a point where you can keep adding the total of the cards while not slowing the game and maybe even keeping a conversation going.

2nd You need to keep a running total of all cards you see out of the shoe.
ex. Ace,5,8,4,3,Jack =+2

3rd a +count is in your favor and a -count is in the houses favor.

4th Take the running total and divide that number by the amount of decks left not dealt. This is the true count
ex. +6/2(decks remaining)= +3 true count

5th multiply the true count by the amount of money you are betting to start with.
ex. Min. table limit is $5( you bet this when you don't have a +true count), true count = +3 so you have $5*3=$15( this is what you should be betting with a true count of +3)

It takes alot of practice to get good enough to go do this at a casino, but if you take the time to learn it it'll pay you back very quickly.

All this casino talk has me jacked up...I leave for Vegas on Friday for 7 days.

It's gonna be awful. ;)
